Toyota updates its bestseller – here’s what’s changed

Toyota, Yaris

Toyota’s Yaris Cross gets a new design, updated interior, and Swedish sales launch as early as May.

Toyota gives the Toyota Yaris Cross a visual refresh for the 2026 model year. The front is redesigned with a new body-colored grille and revised LED headlights, while new wheels and colors are added to the model range.

The interior is also updated. New material choices, redesigned seats, and ambient lighting in higher trim levels provide a more modern feel. A new partially plant-based material is also introduced, with a focus on reducing the climate impact of production.

Hybrid and four-wheel drive remain

Under the hood, the Yaris Cross continues with Toyota’s Hybrid 130 powertrain. It combines a petrol engine and electric motor with a system output of 130 horsepower, while fuel consumption is rated as low as 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers according to WLTP.

As before, the model is offered with both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive AWD-i – an option that has accounted for a growing share of sales, even in Sweden.

Established model

Since its launch in 2021, the Yaris Cross has established itself as one of Toyota’s most important models in Europe. During 2025, around 200,000 units were sold, while the Swedish market accounted for just over 3,800 registrations.

The sportier GR SPORT version also receives an update. It gets a more active chassis calibration and special design elements both externally and internally, but continues to be offered only with front-wheel drive.

On the safety side, Toyota’s T-Mate system is included, with features such as parking sensors with automatic braking and blind spot warning depending on trim level.

The order book opens in Sweden in mid-May. The first deliveries are expected in autumn 2026.
